- Sold, Italian

Sackey & Co. online auctions was proud to present this beautifully restored, concours-winning 1981 Lamborghini Countach LP400S ‘Series 3’ chassis no. 1121374 finished in its original stunning livery of Nero Tenebre over Bianco Latte. This example is considered by marque experts to be one of the finest restored LP400S examples extant worldwide.

The ‘LP400S’ Countach was the first variant to wear the iconic fender flares & strikingly wide Pirelli P7 tires the Countach would become known for. Production for this variant overall totaled only 237 units over 4 years, inclusive of three evolutions or series. This car is one of 82 ‘Series 3’ examples produced, with the associated improvements to chassis and ride height intended by Lamborghini engineers to make the car more usable and enjoyable.

As confirmed by Lamborghini test driver & historian Valentino Balboni, 1121374 was completed by Nuova Automobili Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese on October 10th, 1981, then flown directly by the factory to LAX airport in Los Angeles, CA for an unnamed VIP client. It remained with enthusiast owners based in the United States from new until today.

This example is possibly the most thoroughly restored LP400S to date, with restoration cost in excess of $400,000. Said full nut & bolt restoration was completed by marque specialist Dugan Enterprises in California in 2018, faithful in all aspects to the original car. A well-known & highly experienced appraiser subsequently assessed the car as possibly “…the best LP400S Countach in the world.”

1121374 was the winner of the Best Lamborghini award at 2018 Concorso Italiano Concours D’Elegance, and 1st Place in Class award at the same event.

The Countach is today considered to be the genesis of the modern Supercar, and few examples can claim this rare combination of no-expense spared restoration and stunning specification.
